TAB Movie

The Des Plaines Library had a pretty successful TAB meeting last Saturday. We have some pen pal letters that we’re going to answer, took some new pictures- we’ll post one soon, and talked about the TAB movie that we want to make! Got an idea for what we should do in the video? Promote the TAB? Show off the High School Section? Highlight the Teen Lounge? Comment away!

BTW, Steven and I are going to be sitting down and talking about Battle of the Books soon. If you have more suggestions (either books or how it runs), post ’em!

Quick Things

Our first TAB meeting of the new school year will be coming up semi-soon: September 20th. That’s right, we’re going back to Saturdays! Tell all your friends, and those of you reading this who are now college students but still have friends in HS tell them they should join up 🙂 Try and think of some topics that you think we should talk about: what we should do this year; what books we should be ordering more of; etc. I know that I want to talk about summer reading (and I have some ideas), Teen Read Week which will be happening in October, a volunteering opportunity for TAB members, and I forget what else.  Battle of the Books pre-planning?

The new Teen Lounge site is up! What do you guys think about it? I think it’s pretty rockin’. I love the animation that starts off the page. I’m interested in any good links that you guys use, for studying or for fun. If you have any good ones post them below.

The Teen Lounge is going to be getting 2 new magazines next year: Game Informer and (the most exciting!) Shojo Beat. Shojo Beat is an AWESOME magazine with chapters of shojo manga. Like one month will have chapter one of a new manga, chapter 3 of one they’ve been continuing, etc. The issue I bought had a chapter of Vampire Knight! It’s really cute. I think you guys will like it. I love reading it.

Battle of the Books

This is it folks! Battle of the books July 24th at 6pm! Are you ready?

So I thought it would be cool if we had a thread for Battle of the Books. Make sure you let us know:

  1. Your favorite book
  2. Your least favorite (thought it would be intresting to see what everyone didn’t like)
  3. Do you want TAB to hold another Battle of the Books?
  4. Suggest a Battle of the Book for the next time

This is going to be an awesome battle so if you haven’t finished your books well what are you waiting for? Go and read (post here first!)! Please do not post spoilers here you may only spoil after Battle of the Books. Now I really need to go and read DH(I haven’t started it yet!) have fun!

Battle of the Books was brought to you by TAB a non for profit organization!

JK Thought that would be a funny thing to put at then end of this post.

Odds and Ends

Here’s just some quick information for you guys:

Copies of Twilight are now in for BOTB. If you need to get your copy, just stop off at the 3rd floor Readers’ Services Desk. They’ll probably need to check and make sure that you’re registered for the program first, then you’ll be good to go! I’m really looking forward to reading it 🙂

Make sure you check out the website for The High Strung. Remember: They’re going to be playing at the library Wednesday August 6th. If anyone knows any local teen bands that may be interested in opening for them, have them email me at

Other than that, Game On! is tomorrow. Wii anybody?

Escape to paradise…

Sorry this post is late, but I’ve been super busy finalizing everything for TSRC. Which starts officially in 6 minutes!

Here’s the official info:

The club is only for teens in grades 9-12. Meaning they are just going into 9th grade all the way to people who are just finishing 12th grade.

Game On! is going to be June 3, 10, 17, and 24 and July 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 12-2pm in Friends Room B.

Bangles and Beads! is going to be June 13 at 7pm. THat’s a Friday, and you HAVE to pre-register for this. Either call the library or go to the website.

Monday June 16 we’ll show the movie Juno starting at 6:30pm in the Storytime Room.

Monday June 30, we’ll show anime episodes. Again same time, same place as the Juno movie.

Indian Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark wil be July 9th (a Wednesday) at 6:30pm in the Storytime Room.

Taste Test: Breakfast at Nite! will be Wednesday July 16th at 6pm also in (surprise) the Storytime Room.

And now the best for last:

Battle of the Books! It will be Thursday July 24th at 6pm in Friends Room C. Registration is required (to get the books). You can get the 5 books from the 3rd floor Readers’ Services Desk. If the books aren’t there yet (which is very possible), make sure they take your name, number, and email address and I will call you when they get here. Or because they’re such awesome books, buy them yourself.

The books are:

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

Looking for Alaska by jon Green

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by you know her name.

You guys better be happy about this 🙂

There is no sign up for summer reading either. Just pick up a flier at the RS desk on the 3rd floor and it’ll list all the programs, and a sheet of book tickets. Turn finished book tickets into the 3rd floor desk. Recruit lots of people for TSRC. Remember- each book read and/or program attended gets you entered into the prize drawing! What’s the grand prize? Let’s just say it’s going to be AWESOME.

Comments? Suggestions? You know the drill. Now get to the library and get started!

Summer Reading

I know that it seems early to start thinking about this, but at our staff meeting today we started tossing some ideas around. So let’s brainstorm!

What do you guys like about summer reading?

What prizes do you wish we could have?

Would you like it if we had a separated trivia contest like the adults did last summer?

What programs would you like there to be (movies, DDR, etc.)?

What if, instead of ticket booklets, everyone got a TAB newsletter that talked about all the programs that were going to happen during the summer?

Last year we had book trivia as one of the last programs of the year. What if this year we did Battle of the Books as a big program? And if you guys want to do that we need to pick books!

Any other ideas, suggestions? I really need feedback from you guys. So if you have friends that participate in summer reading ask them their thoughts too okay? We want this year to be THE BEST ONE YET!!
