Waaahh! It’s hard doing this without Our Fearless Leader!

I know everybody is missing Cheryl (although she’s still around, just busy with a younger audience these days), but some teen events have been planned for July, so don’t give up on us. Can you believe it’s almost the middle of June? I wish it would get warm already! (Doesn’t have to be sunny for me – just warm)

July events for teens:

  • Wii Game Night
  • 7/2/2009
  • 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Teen Movie: Iron Man
  • 7/16/2009
  • 6:30 – 8:30 PM
  • Bangles & Beads program
  • 7/29/2009
  • 7 – 9 PM
  • Wii Game Night
  • 7/30/2009
  • 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Please come to these so we know what you like, don’t like. There’s a teen events/programs page on our Web site: http://www.dppl.org/teen/library_events.html with a live RSS feed from our calendar. We consider teens to be adults, so you’ll find some adult events there, too.

We (Caroline, Lupe and myself) feel that the Teens have been abandonded and that there are not enough programs for the Teens this summer. We don’t even know what the main prize is. We also feel that the Adult programs are not geared towards the Teen audience and when attended we feel like outsiders inside our sacred sanctum. Please answer these questions:
    1. What is the age limit on the program this year?
    2. What is the Grand Prize?
    3. Will there be any more than just 4 programs for Teens this year?

I’m still waiting to hear from everyone what’s going on. I’m not supposed to have a connection to teen things (they have to learn to do it on their own), and am acting as a consultant.

The last I heard- WHICH MAY CHANGE!!!!! is that a Twilight movie showing would be happening. Maybe that is moving to fall. I suggested that they make TSRC for 9th through 20 year olds. They may not have gone along with that.

I don’t think we had planned a grand prize, but instead drawings for gift cards.

I do have to point out this: that the person they are looking for to replace me would be someone whose job is mainly to work with you guys, the teens. You all know that I had many different job responsibilities and not a lot of time to do them all in. I think I did the best I could.

Sadly there just isn’t enough people in the department to run everything the way I did. That’s why TAB meetings were always extremely important to me- I wanted to get as much feedback from you guys that I could so I could plan programs that you liked.

Give the people in RS a chance- they’re doing the best that they can with the small staff that they have.

If you want to discuss this further, please comment back I would LOVE to hear from you guys. And you can always find me on the 2nd floor. I hope whoever they hire to replace me will find you guys as completely AWESOME as I do!

    ps Whew that was long!

We hear you, teens. Unfortunately, I’m just the temporary blogger, the Web Services person, and I know NOTHING about summer reading club. I have asked the person in charge of Readers Services to tell me ASAP what is planned for teens, what the prizes are, etc. I think Cheryl is right, I think the grand prize has been passed up for a lot of gift cards, giving more people a chance to win. Everybody here is totally understaffed and we’re doing 1.5 jobs right now, so please try and cut us some slack. I hope, along with Cheryl, that we get an awesome teen library type person to start working with all of you ASAP. I have offered, if there is money in the budget, to help plan some additional programs for you, even though I am a very old person…more soon.
