TAB Meetings Start This Thursday

What do you feel about how the library treats teens and teen programming? What kinds of programs should we have? What are the newest, greatest, best books, graphic novels, video games, and DVDs out there? Is the library too BORING? Help us be cool!

How do you do that? Come to the library’s Teen Advisory Board meetings. We’ll feed you snacks and candy, you help us come up with great ideas. Everybody wins! It all starts Thursday September 24th from 4-5pm in the Teen Lounge on the 3rd floor.

We need your help!

TAB Movie

The Des Plaines Library had a pretty successful TAB meeting last Saturday. We have some pen pal letters that we’re going to answer, took some new pictures- we’ll post one soon, and talked about the TAB movie that we want to make! Got an idea for what we should do in the video? Promote the TAB? Show off the High School Section? Highlight the Teen Lounge? Comment away!

BTW, Steven and I are going to be sitting down and talking about Battle of the Books soon. If you have more suggestions (either books or how it runs), post ‘em!

TAB Meeting This Saturday

We’ve got some things to talk about this Saturday! We’re going to launch Teen Read Week (theme is Books With Bite), talk about the upcoming teen book discussion (November) which you guys can sign up for, pencils (you’ll learn more), and something exciting that Steven and I have been working on which hopefully will be set to talk about with you.

Does anyone else have anything they’d like to talk about? Future programs, books we should own, general craziness?

Thanks Caroline for this Awesome image!

Quick Things

Our first TAB meeting of the new school year will be coming up semi-soon: September 20th. That’s right, we’re going back to Saturdays! Tell all your friends, and those of you reading this who are now college students but still have friends in HS tell them they should join up :) Try and think of some topics that you think we should talk about: what we should do this year; what books we should be ordering more of; etc. I know that I want to talk about summer reading (and I have some ideas), Teen Read Week which will be happening in October, a volunteering opportunity for TAB members, and I forget what else.  Battle of the Books pre-planning?

The new Teen Lounge site is up! What do you guys think about it? I think it’s pretty rockin’. I love the animation that starts off the page. I’m interested in any good links that you guys use, for studying or for fun. If you have any good ones post them below.

The Teen Lounge is going to be getting 2 new magazines next year: Game Informer and (the most exciting!) Shojo Beat. Shojo Beat is an AWESOME magazine with chapters of shojo manga. Like one month will have chapter one of a new manga, chapter 3 of one they’ve been continuing, etc. The issue I bought had a chapter of Vampire Knight! It’s really cute. I think you guys will like it. I love reading it.

TAB Party!!! Woooo!

Okay- Caroline, Heather, E, Melissa, Catherine, and Rachel…..Get ready……

Because the TAB end of the year party (extremely end of the year this year) is happening….

AUGUST 5!!!! That’s a Tuesday, and right now we’re looking to meet at 6pm in the Teen Lounge. Veronica and I are quite excited to finally be doing this. And Steven if you’ve escaped from moving hell and are reading this, email me and let me know if you can come (we want you to be there too).

So girls, it’s now your job to email me and let me know if you can come or not, just so we can plan in advance. But of course, you know it’ll be awesome ;)

ps I know we all want to talk about how BOTB went, and I hope to have that post up at the end of the day. BOTB had me so tired I took a mini blogcation.

TAB meeting recap! Dewey! Awesome!

Hello!

Monday’s TAB meeting was….dare I say, successful? Yup! There were 4 members there (well 4.5!) and we got a lot accomplished.

Ideas for TSRC:

mendi program (I don’t think I’m spelling that right)

book discussion (Twilight?)

Movie nite

(possible movie ideas include: Juno, August Rush, Indiana Jones, LOTR, Hairspray, Across the Universe)

gaming programs- what about every Tuesday in June and July??!!!

jewelry program with the ever popular Anita

separate trivia contest

and of course the ever popular BOTB.

Guys, I need more info about BOTB and how that’s different then Book Jeopardy.

Prize ideas include:

gift cards to Game Stop, Best Buy, electronicy places, Target, Visa gift card, ITunes

IPod Nano

digital camera

Other ideas for themes were:

Escape to Paradise

Another idea brought up would be to do an Abraham Lincoln reading group, like the Caudill group. I’ll look into what this would be like- I think it would be a great idea.

Then we tested the scavenger hunt that the adults will be playing at Do the Dewey. I was exhausted running up and down stairs, but then I’m old. Speaking of Do the Dewey, you guys still going to help out??? Because I am! That’s right, I’ll be helping to supervise you guys and probably helping to serve too. It’ll be a lot of fun!

Any thoughts or comments on TSRC, Dewey, spring?

don’t you just HATE looking at yourself doing stuff????

| View Show | Create Your Own

Sorry, I wouldn’t usually use something this busy for a Web slideshow, but Word Press only gives you a couple of options so I tried out this rock you thing. Hey, at least I took off the fake glitter it put on the pictures! Don’t forget, we really need your help for Do the Dewey, coming up on April 26th, so clear your calendar and get some friends to help out, too.
